Thermoplastic PolyOlefin
(TPO) is a trade name that refers to
polymer/filler blends usually consisting of some fraction
of PP
(polypropylene)
, PE
(polyethylene) ,
BCPP (block copolymer
(polypropylene) , rubber, and a reinforcing filler. Common fillers include,
though are not restricted to talc, fiberglass, carbon fiber,
wollastonite, and MOS (Metal Oxy Sulfate). Common rubbers include EPR
(ethylene-propylene rubber),
EPDM (EP-diene rubber), EO (ethylene-octene), EB (ethylene-butadiene),
SEBS (Styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene). Currently there is a great variety of commercially available
rubbers and BCPP's. They are produced using
regioselective and
stereoselective catalysts known as
metallocenes.
The metallocene catalyst becomes embedded in the polymer and cannot be recovered.

In the commercial roofing industry, reflectivity and cool roofing has been the dominant
discussion point for several years, and the
Duro-Last® Cool Zone® roofing system has
set the standard for single-ply roof reflectivity and the resulting energy savings. Now,
terms like sustainability, cool roofs, and cool roofing are receiving a lot of attention,
and once again, Duro-Last is setting the bar.
But what does sustainability and cool roofing really mean for building owners, facility
managers, contractors, architects, and other specifiers? It means that the design, construction,
maintenance, life-cycle impact, adaptive re-use, destruction, and recycling of roofing components
must help meet the long-term environmental standards demanded by today’s high-performance buildings.
To be considered “sustainable,” a roofing system must meet the
Five E’s
of high-performance roofing: Energy, Environment, Endurance, Economics, and Engineering. In
each of these areas, the Duro-Last Cool Zone roofing system leads the commercial roofing industry.
Click on the Five E's link above to learn more about the Five E’s and how the Duro-Last Cool
Zone roofing system delivers on the multiple demands of high-performance roofing.
Duro-Last Roofing
The
Duro-Last prefabricated
single-ply roofing system is ideal for virtually any commercial or industrial, flat or low-sloped
application. The highly-reflective white membrane delivers real energy cost savings for building
owners and managers. Extremely durable and easily installed without disruption to daily operations,
the Duro-Last roofing system is also leak-proof, resistant to high winds, and virtually
maintenance-free.
The Duro-Last Cool Zone roofing system is an ENERGY STAR® labeled roofing system, with an initial
reflectivity of 87.5% and a three-year weathered reflectivity of 86.5%, based on Energy Star
testing procedures.
Reflectivity or albedo is the percentage of the sun’s energy that is
reflected by a surface. Another important measurement of a roof membrane’s performance
is emittance Emittance
deals with how effectively a surface releases heat; it is the
percentage of absorbed energy that a material can radiate away. The Cool Zone’s total
emittance is measured at 95%.
Duro-Shield Metal
The
Duro-Shield
metal retrofit roofing system is a cost-effective, single-ply roofing solution that can be
installed directly over existing metal roofs. The Duro-Shield system is leak-proof, virtually
maintenance-free, and backed by a comprehensive 15-year full warranty or a 20-year prorated
warranty.
The Duro-Shield roofing system is the long-term way to protect your building against rain,
